Rangers at Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water’s Elan Valley are inviting members of the public to join then for a big Dam Open Day on Tuesday, 27 May.

Visitors will be given an exclusive view inside Pen y Garreg dam and up to the central tower.

This dam is unusual in that it houses an access tunnel to the central tower, which is lit by windows on the downstream wall of the dam.

Whilst inside the central tower visitors can enjoy a unique view of the dam and also learn about the feat of engineering that made the Elan Valley.

For any visitors wanting to join the Open Day, park at Penbont car park and walk through the woodland, taking the steps to the dam entrance. There are steps inside the dam, which may be wet and in some areas there are low light levels. Rangers advise that children are carefully supervised at all times.

The dam will be open between 1pm and 4pm and there is an entry fee of £1 per person, with all proceeds going to WaterAid. For more information contact Tel: 01597 810898.
