Five Ways to be Eco-friendly in the Cambrian Mountains

The Cambrian Mountains is one of the greenest and most undisturbed spots of Wales. So here’s a special Earth Day blog on why we think the Cambrian Mountains leads the way when it comes to being green.

Denmark Farm

1. THE ULTIMATE ECO ACCOMMODATION…
Stay in two super eco accommodations such as Denmark Farm which is run by the Shared Earth Trust, with the aim of involving wildlife around everything. Visitors can head here for a comfortable stay or to learn more about sustainable living.

Another great eco place is the Yurt Farm, which is situated on an organic farm. There’s an abundance of food on offer from the on-site shop.

2. LEARNING ABOUT FOODS ON YOUR DOORSTOP…
Eat in local restaurants such as The Black Lion HotelY Talbot whose chef previous posting was at the Ritz, and Lasswade Country Hotel which has 2 AA Rosettes. Locally sourced food helps keep the menus fresh and tasty.

3. EVENTS THAT ARE DOMINATED BY NATURE
Participate in some Green Events like a skimming stones competition, racing a horse and bog snorkelling which highlight the importance of the wonderful environment around us.

4. A HEALTHY HIKE IN THE GREEN HILLS
Head on a hike with the popular walking guide ‘Twm’s Treks’. Twm knows the area inside out and will let you know how you can be eco on your walks.

5. A SPECTACULAR ECO SPOT…
Visit the Elan Valley Visitor Centre for a really feel good eco-trip. We’d recommend a circular bike ride, or hang about until the night to experience the outstanding dark skies. The Elan Valley is regarded as a haven for wildlife and one of the most important eco sites in Wales.
