TV Daredevil Ready for One Mile Bog Snorkelling!
Daredevil TV personality Mike Bushell is preparing for a ‘mucky experience’ as he chases a place in the Guinness Book of Records for Sport Relief.
Mike, a popular presenter on BBC Breakfast, and famous for his weekly features on off beat sports, is heading to the town renown for its association with whacky activities to set a new world record for bog snorkelling!
Llanwrtyd Wells, in mid Wales, hosts the world famous annual bog snorkelling championships, this year as part of the second World Alternative Games in August.
And Mike has been challenged to complete a bog snorkelling mile as part of this year’s Sport Relief activities – a challenge he will be fulfilling on Thursday.
“I’ve taken part in the annual bog snorkelling event, but that’s up and back in the bog, which is a total distance of a hundred metres! This time I’ve got to do that 15 times, but hopefully I’ll complete a mile within the hour.
“But whatever happens, I hope that my efforts will earn me a place in the Guinness Book of Records for bog snorkelling endurance, and that will be fantastic.
“I love going to Llanwrtyd Wells; the people there are just such great fun, and put on some wonderfully quirky, but great fun activities, including, of course, bog snorkelling, the man versus horse challenge, and all the many activities that feature as part of the World Alternative Games.”
Karen Perkins, of the World Alterantive Games organising committee, said Mike will have plenty of support on Thursday.
“He is a great supporter and friend of our event, and we will all be cheering him on, and hopefully into the record books – if he makes it; indeed, when he makes it; it will be nothing less than he deserves!”
Mike’s bog snorkelling challenge will be shown on BBC Breakfast next weekend.
